SUMMARY: James Ellroy's first post-"Cold Six Thousand" prose piece appeared in October, 2001. Ellroy supplied the afterword for Fox News Personality Bill O'Reilly's second nonfiction book — a slamdunk best-seller.
Ellroy, a self-professed O'Reilly fan, profiled the wildly popular broadcaster in GQ Magazine early in 2001.
The afterword in O'Reilly's second book describes Ellroy's "discovery" of O'Reilly during the winter of 1998 while writing "The Cold Six Thousand." Along the way, Ellroy gets in a few more jabs at former U.S. president Bill Clinton and likens O'Reilly to Martin Luther.
O'Reilly, in his acknowledgements, declares James Ellroy "Sergeant at Arms of the No Spin Zone." Ellroy also makes it onto the back flap of the dust jacket: "James Ellroy, who contributes an Afterword to The No Spin Zone, is a famed novelist and journalist who profiled Bill O'Reilly for the magazine GQ. His latest book is The Cold Six Thousand."
Ellroy penned the afterword on July 8, 2001.
Collectors should note the first hardcover edition (which will sell out quickly,) states "First edition" and includes a printing string that looks like this: 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1. The book is published by Broadway Books, ISBN: 0-7679-0848-1.
